Film
Montana, by Lesly Esparza, 3:09, 2024
Montana is a short experimental narrative that explores the relationship between two girls. Using found footage and other recordings; a story is told in which puberty, longing, and curiosity are intertwined. Data moshing is used to create the effect on film and conserves the memory of the narrative in a fluid, transitory way, as if looking into the brain of someone telling the story. Montana asks its viewers to remember what it was like to be small.
Whale, The Moon, by Lesly Esparza, 9:28, 2025
Whale, the Moon was my senior thesis capstone at UNM. It follows the story of two astrophysicists named Valeria and Selene. After whales wash up dead on shore and the moon disappears one night, they try to find out why this happens, only to confront something stranger.
Interstitial 1 - Experiments in Cinema v.18.4
Return to the Meatspace: Experiments in Cinema v.18.4
This is an interstitial I made for 2023. Nothing super special, just the titles for some of the films that were presented. This was for a particular week, and I have weeks 2 and 3. Both of those interstitials have the same outline as this one but with different titles. There were other interstitials made by other film students, but I decided to post mine because when I went online to try to find some sort of outline/inspiration, there weren't a lot of videos. I hope more students upload their own interstitials. Go watch these films as well!
This was a short experimental film I made my first year of college. I made the music, and all the clips are from internet archive. I included it in here because I think it is a good landmark in terms of seeing where my art has progressed since then.
I decided to include this here because it is also an experimental piece I made and i haven't put it up anywhere. Might as well put it up here. this is what i wrote when i was done with it: It took me 4 minutes for me to get sick of brushing my teeth, or at the very least, for the toothpaste to end. #fun #deepmeaning #lol yeah no tongue brushing because you need to pay for that I think… also, do you really need me to write some big paragraph about the deeper meaning of this? Idk, maybe you should think about it yourself...
